Coronavirus is causing a flurry of plastic waste. Campaigners fear it may be permanent

COVID-19 is generating massive plastic waste. Disposable gloves, masks, plastic film all potentially end up joining the annual 8 million tons of plastic trash leak into the ocean, becoming a lure for the fauna or gradually breaking down into microplastics.
Yet, such sanitary equipment seems vital and necessary to fight the spread of the virus.
Better end of life management of this new waste stream is essential, together with the development of bio based & biodegradable & compostable alternatives
